Getting Caught up in the “Daily Grind”? Here are 7 tips to enjoy more every day.
Life. It’s a simple word, but something we seem to take it for granted in our busy lives. It seems to go by more quickly the older we get. There is an ancient saying that says, “For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.”
Every day is another chance to be better than you were the day before. However, we can get bogged down with trivial, mundane tasks. Here are some simple things you should do everyday for a more healthy, fulfilled you.
1. Laugh
Another ancient proverb goes like this, “A merry heart does good like a medicine: but a broken spirit dries the bones.” Science has proven that laughter is very healthy for you. Take time each day to smile and laugh. Watch a funny movie with a loved one, read some jokes, or just go to the mall and people watch!
2. Spend time with Family and Friends
Relationships are important and spending time with those you care about is essential. Be sure to spend quality AND quantity time! Not with someone you care about? Pick up the phone and give them a call.
3. Exercise
Get physically active. You don’t have to pump iron at a gym for two hours every day and run 10 miles. Just move. Take a walk, ride a bike, or even just park at the furthest point from the entry to the store you need to go to. Just be conscious of your need to move and you will find opportunities.
4. Listen to Music
Music can improve your mood, lower blood pressure, and relax you. If you can, listen to music while you work, prepare dinner, etc.
5. Perform an Act of Kindness
You may think that doing something to help a friend only benefits them, but that is not true. You may benefit just as much, if not more. Helping others makes us feel good about ourselves. Kindness makes you feel happier and it also makes for better relationships. Lastly, it’s contagious! If you are kind, guess what? People are usually kind right back at you!
6. Be Still
Take a few minutes out of each day to just be still to pray or meditate. Get to a quiet place and think of what you have to be grateful for. It can be a great way to start or end the day.
7. Learn Something New
Don’t get stuck in a rut. Learn something new. Spend a few minutes doing some research on a topic of interest online or swing by the library on the way home from work. Sign up for a class at your local tech school, learn a new sport, game, skill, etc. The possibilities are endless. You will be surprised at how fun learning new things can be!
